BOSTON, Mass. – The Bucknell women's track and field team capped off a successful Saturday at the Patriot League Indoor Championships by setting school and league records in the 4x800-meter relay, as the Bison sit in first place with a full slate of events still to come on Sunday.
Bucknell's 4x800 relay was comprised of sophomores Christine Bendzinski and Emma Harris along with juniors Seline Tan-Torres and Sarah Chandler. The quartet finished the race in 8:53.53, shaving two seconds off the previous record that was set by a team featuring Bendzinski, Chandler and Harris in last year's Patriot League Championships.
Sophia Nnadi earned the gold medal in the 20-pound weight throw, beating out a field of 19 athletes with a toss of 54-3 ¾. Her throw is a personal-best and ranks fifth in school history. Also scoring in the event was Tara Lee, who finished fourth overall with a toss of 50-3 ½, which is also a personal-record.
Kate Scott was the runner-up in the 5000m run, posting a time of 17:04.75. Her time is a personal-record and ranks third in program history. Deanna Godby and Alison Billas placed sixth and seventh, respectively, helping the Bison score points.
Also scoring for the Bison was Lauren Hudson, who took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-5. Her jump is a personal-record and is tied for the seventh-best effort in school history.
Jess Bridle (60m, 200m), Kafilat Oladiran (60m, 60m hurdles) and Jen Silvestri (200m) each reached the finals in their respective events that will take place on Sunday.
"It was your typical Patriot League Championships," says head coach Kevin Donner. "We had some athletes have rough days, but a few others really picked things up for us nicely. The success of the weight throw and the 4x800 relay really helps with momentum for tomorrow."
The championship meet concludes on Sunday with points in 14 events up for grabs.
