BOSTON, Mass. – The Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships got underway with the women's pentathlon and four events of the men's heptathlon Friday at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.
Sophomore Alison Varano and freshman Isabella Bjorkeson wrapped up their indoor season by finishing fourth and seventh, respectively, in the pentathlon. Varano finished with a personal-best 3,297 points, which ranks sixth in program history, while Bjorkeson recorded a personal-best 3,077 points. Boston University senior Catherine Sampson won the event, tallying 3,709 points.
"It was a nice start for our women to finish fourth and seventh," says head coach Kevin Donner. "Both Ali and Isabella were right near or right above their personal record for each individual event and put some valuable points on the board."
On the men's side, senior Cody Haupt is in third place out of 12 athletes through the first four events in the men's heptathlon. He has accumulated 2,701 points with three events to go. Sophomore Adam Karl is right behind Haupt in fourth place, tallying 2,622 points. Army West Point sophomore Tyler Davis is the current leader with 2,813.
The conference championships resume Saturday morning and will conclude on Sunday.
