Men's Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Second Day of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Chris Devlin was the runner up in the 400 IM and joined sophomores Chadd Cummings, James Elmendorf, and Charlie McFarland on the 200 medley relay team that set a program top-10 time Saturday at the Bucknell Invitational. The Bison men's swimming and diving team sits in sixth place after the second of three days of competition.
Devlin's second-place finish in the 400 IM came with a time of 3:58.39. North Dakota's Jacob Wielinski won the race with a “B” cut time of 3:52.13. Devlin is the school record holder in the event, swimming 3:49.04 at the Patriot League Championships. Senior Louis Behnen, who has the second-fastest time in school history, swam the seventh-fastest time in the preliminaries but did not compete in the finals.
Devlin, Cummings, Elmendorf, and McFarland finished third in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:31.84. That ranks sixth all-time at Bucknell. In the 800 free relay, Devlin, senior Jack Robinson, senior Denver Freeman, and Behnen took third.
The Bison had two swimmers make the “A” final in the 200 free, led by Behnen with a fourth-place finish. Robinson was three spots behind him in seventh. Freeman and junior Sam Rutan both made the “B” final and took 11th and 13th, respectively.
Cummings was fourth in the 100 breast, while McFarland finished 11th and junior Tarik Lott took 16th. Robinson have the Bison another fourth-place finish with his time in the 100 back. Devlin had the second-fastest time in the prelims but did not compete in the finals.
Competing in the 100 fly, freshman Matt McGoey qualified for a night swim with a spot in the “B” final and finished 15th. Cummings swam the 11th-fastest time in the prelims.
The final day of the invitational continues with the prelims of the 200 back at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
