LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell head coach Aaron Roussell has a goal for his team every year to work toward becoming one of the best mid-major programs in the country. Recent polls have shown the Bison may be getting closer to that goal.
In a recent article, ESPN named Bucknell the 10th-best mid-major team in the country and cited Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Claire DeBoer as a “name to know.” ESPN also released its preseason bracketology, and have Bucknell as a No. 13 seed as the champion of the Patriot League.
Bucknell is ranked 20th in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25. The poll, which is in its seventh season of existence, is voted on by 31 coaches from mid-major schools. The poll includes teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast, Western Athletic.
The Bison are the preseason favorite to win the Patriot League. They are coming off a season in which they went 25-8 overall and 17-1 in the conference. They advanced to the WNIT Second Round after beating Akron 74-70, the first victory in a national postseason tournament in program history.
Bucknell opens the 2016-17 season at Binghamton on Friday, Nov. 11. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Events Center in Vestal, New York.
