HAMILITON, N.Y. – Bucknell rallied back from a three-goal deficit, thanks to a hat-trick from Sebastiaan Blickman, but Colgate found the back of the net in overtime to pick up the 4-3 victory Saturday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
The Raiders held a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime, but watched their lead evaporate in the second half, as the Bison forced extra minutes. Colgate scored the decisive goal 4:54 into the overtime period, earning its third consecutive league win, while Bucknell moves to 3-8-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the Patriot League.
Colgate (8-3-0, 3-1-1 Patriot League), ranked third in the Northeast Region, took a 1-0 lead 3:44 into the match. Zach Pagani collected a rebound off a blocked header from Zach Tamen for the finish.
Coming off league wins over Lehigh and Boston University, Colgate scored again in the 20th minute. Chase Pagani serviced a ball to Colin O'Neill, who then drove the ball into the penalty area, passing across the box to Oliver Harris for the goal.
The Raiders tacked on another goal in the 43rd minute. Troy Moo Penn intercepted a Bucknell pass, driving the ball into the box, and then passing in front of the net to Steven DeLeo for the finish.
The Bison began their comeback trail, cutting into the deficit 2:36 into the second half. Blickman slid a ball past keeper Ricky Brown from the right side of the box off a touch from Nick King.
The senior scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 62nd minute, heading home a long cross from Adam Bradshaw to get the Bison within one score.
In the 83rd minute, Blickman scored his third goal of the day from five yards out off a pass from Austin Lenart, slipping the ball past the goalie to the right side of the netting to give Bucknell its first hat-trick performance since Chris Hennings in 2008.
In overtime, Uyiosa Omorgbe played a header from Aram Ouligian, who sent a volley over the outstretched arms of Emmett Witmer for the game-winning score.
Witmer finished with six saves in the match, including a pair of terrific stops in the 76th minute. The freshman turned away a penalty kick and a follow-up attempt from Jared Stroud to keep the Bison within a score.
“I was disappointed with the end result, but not disappointed with the effort we had to get back into the game,” said head coach Brendan Nash. “Down 3-0 on the road against the defending regular season champs, we changed the game plan, they followed the game plan, and I was proud that we scored three goals in 45 minutes.”
Bucknell takes a break from Patriot League competition to host Howard on Tuesday (Oct. 11). Game time is 7 p.m. and the match will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
