WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team won five events, but fell to Army West Point 172-128 on Saturday at Crandall Poll. The Bison were competing for the first time since taking fourth at the Bucknell Invitational on Nov. 22.
Senior Emma Levendoski paced the Bison by sweeping the backstroke events. She won the 100 back with a time of 55.87 and touched the wall in 2:01.03 to win the 200 back. She was more than three seconds faster than second-place Bailey Smith from Army in the 200 back. With the two wins, Levendoski finishes her career unbeaten in eight backstroke races against the Black Knights
Adding one individual win apiece for the Bison were sophomore Julianna Foss, sophomore Leah Bloodgood and senior Lara Curtis. Foss was first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.49, finishing more than a second faster than the runner-up. Bloodgood took first in a close race in the 200 breast, winning with a time of 2:25.50. The runner-up swimmer from Army and Bucknell's Mary Weinstein were within a half second of Bloodgood.
Curtis led a solid effort by the Bison divers, winning the 1-meter event with a score of 214.27. Sophomore Tally Ford was right behind her and added a runner-up finish on the 3-meter board.
Bucknell took second and third in three separate events. Brittany Bishop was the runner-up ahead of third-place Rachel McGoff in the 200 free, and was third behind runner-up Abigail Rosenberg in the 50 free. In the 400 IM, Alanna Nawrocki was second, and Mary Weinstein was third.
Also contributing runner-up finishes for the Bison were Diana Hanson in the 100 breast and Foss in the 100 fly.
Bucknell dropped to 2-4 in scored meets this season, including a 2-3 mark against Patriot League opponents. Army West Point improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Despite the loss, Bucknell still leads 18-5 in the all-time series with the Black Knights. The Bison have won 14 of the past 15 meetings.
The Bison will have a short turnaround before their next competition as they make the trip to Colgate for a 1 p.m. meet on Sunday.
