Wenzel Sets Top-10 Diving Mark in Loss to Columbia

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Louis Behnen and Chris Devlin won two individual events apiece and Tyler Wenzel posted the second-best score in program history on the 1-meter board, but Bucknell dropped its final home meet of the season 183-115 to a tough Columbia team on Sunday at Kinney Natatorium.
Wenzel finished second in the 3-meter diving event, but his score of 303.70 ranks second best all-time at Bucknell. He eclipsed his previous career best by 20 points.
Behnen won a pair of freestyle events, including a narrow victory in the 200 free. He touched the wall first in 1:41.84, edging Columbia's Nikita Bondarenko's time of 1:41.92. Behnen added a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:36.33.
Devlin won the 100 back in 50.66, easily besting Columbia's Michal Zyla's time of 52.21. He led a 1-2 finish for the Bison in the 200 back, winning in 1:48.21. Jack Robinson was the runner-up. Adding to his solid day in the pool, Devlin was the runner-up in the 200 IM.
Rounding out the Bucknell winners was the 200 free relay team of JT Nangle, Jack Robinson, Charlie McFarland and Steve Grune. They picked up 11 points for the Bison, finishing in 1:25.86.
Posting runner-up finishes for the Bison were Mitch Buccalo (200 fly) and Grune (50 free).
Bucknell will compete in a meet at Lehigh on Saturday, and will wrap up the regular season at the Navy Invite on Saturday, Jan. 30.
