LEWISBURG, Pa. – Christine Bendzinski wrapped up her first season at Bucknell with an impressive fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run Saturday at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Bendzinski entered the 15-runner field with the fifth fastest time. She improved one spot above her seed, crossing the line in 4:29.39. She finished ahead of runners from Indiana, Pittsburgh, Penn, Florida and Clemson.
“I would say that was Chrissy's best race ever,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “It was 98 degrees, but she really went for it and ran near the front after the pack separated. She had a little fade at the end, but her strength held off a charging pack. To be only one second off her PR in that weather is incredible. This experience will be very beneficial to her in future championship events.”
The race was won by Kate Murphy in 4:16.98, while Utah's Sarah Feeny was second in 4:21.50. They will represent the United States at the Pan American Junior Championships. With her fourth-place showing, Bendzinski will serve as an alternate.
