LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Sophia Nnadi was named the Patriot League Women's Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference on Friday. She is the fifth Bison athlete to earn the award and the second during head coach Kevin Donner's time with the team.
The Bucknell thrower bested a strong field in a vote of the league's sports information directors. Eight of the 10 athletes to make the Academic All-Patriot League Team also earned All-Patriot League honors at the championship meet. The Bison junior was one of those eight, earning Field Athlete of the Meet honors with a first-place finish in the shot put and a runner-up showing in the hammer throw. She was also third in the discus.
Nnadi's outstanding performance at the championship meet was a big reason Bucknell was able to bring home the Patriot League title, adding to their title at the indoor championships. Her first-place finish in the shot put came with a toss that smashed both the meet and Bucknell records in the event.
Nnadi carries a 3.63 cumulative grade-point average as an International Relations and French major. A Dean's List student, she has also qualified for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in each of her previous two years at Bucknell.
