Women's Rowing's Varsity Eight Named Bison Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's rowing varsity eight had a strong showing at this past weekend's Dad Vail Regatta and earned 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week honors for its performance. The varsity eight was one of four Bucknell boats to finish in second place in a finals race as the Bison placed second overall in the team standings at the prestigious event held on the Schuylkill River.

Bucknell's varsity eight boat lineup was: Kathleen Hickes (coxswain), Amanda Chikowski (8), Amanda McCabe (7), Helena Craig (6), Hannah Lindgren (5), Maya Martignetti (4), Elizabeth Wilkey (3), Kumari Lewis (2) and Andrea Seifert (1).

The Bison opened the weekend by winning their heat on Friday, beating runner-up Saint Joseph's by more than seven seconds. They followed that with another victory in Saturday morning's semifinal, crossing the finish line more than four seconds ahead of Grand Valley State.

Bucknell then took home the silver medal in the afternoon grand final, finishing one spot behind team trophy winner Massachusetts and one spot ahead of Drexel.

The Bison varsity eight has had plenty of success at the Dad Vail Regatta in recent years. The boat made the grand final for the first time in program history in 2012 and finished in second place. In 2013, the varsity eight finished third, while it was fourth in 2014.

The varsity eight and the rest of the Bison team is busy preparing for Friday's Patriot League Championship, which will take place on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Bucknell finished in third place at last year's Patriot League Championship.
