WEST POINT, N.Y. – Kate Scott turned in a record-breaking performance in the 10,000-meter run to lead Bucknell to second place after the first day of competition at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The host Black Knights lead the nine-team field at Shea Stadium with 49,5 points, while the Bison are in second with 46 and Holy Cross is third with 36.5.
Scott was one of two Bucknell athletes to earn All-Patriot League honors on the first of two days of competition. The sophomore won the 10k with a meet-record time of 35:18.94. That is good enough for second all-time at Bucknell and is a 14-second improvement from her previous best time this season. Montana DiPietrantonio also made a huge improvement from her previous fastest time this year, improving by 34 seconds to take sixth.
The previous Patriot League record in the 10k had stood for eight years. It was set by Navy's Justin Whipple in 2007.
Sophia Nnadi achieved Second Team All-Patriot League status with her runner-up finish in the hammer throw. Her distance of 170-10 is fifth all-time at Bucknell. Tara Lee also scored points in the event with an eighth-place showing. Bucknell throwers also fared well in the javelin with three throwers scoring points. Dayna Simone led the way with a third-place throw of 137-6. Rebecca Skovira took fifth and Meg Sangimino was one spot behind her in sixth.
Andrea Bourgal, Reagan Cerney, Sarah Chandler and Christine Bendzinski took fifth in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:09.55.
Competing in her final Patriot League Championships, senior Kim Nagotko set herself up for a successful second day of competition, qualifying for the finals with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash prelims and a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash prelims. Carly Reiner will join Nagotko in the finals of the 100m after taking eighth on Friday.
Kafilat Oladiran and Jen Silvestri will both compete in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles. Oladiran qualified fifth, while Silvestri was seventh.
