LEWISBURG, Pa. -- A blanket of snow greeted the Bucknell men's golf team upon its arrival in Hamilton, New York, for the Patriot League Men's Golf Championship. The Bison are scheduled to play a practice round on Friday, with the 54-hole championship slated for Saturday and Sunday at Seven Oaks GC. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
The Patriot League Championship is a 54-hole event, with 36 holes on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday. The eight participating teams are limited to six golfers with the top four scorers each round counting towards the team total. The winning team earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Golf Regionals, while an individual champion that is not on the winning team would also earn a spot in the regionals.
Bucknell has captured Patriot League titles in 2006, 2007 and 2009. The Bison finished in fifth at last year's championship, and they were also fifth in 2010 the last time the event was held at Seven Oaks.
Defending champion Loyola was the preseason favorite in the Patriot League, followed by Navy, Colgate, Lehigh, Bucknell, Lafayette and Holy Cross. The Bison will be paired with Colgate for the first and second rounds on Saturday.
Bucknell is coming off a strong second-place finish at the Saint Francis Invitational two weeks ago. The Bison shot 293-294-290 in the three rounds at Sunnehanna CC, their best three scores of the spring.
This is a young Bison team, with former Patriot League Rookie of the Year Peter Scialabba the lone senior on the roster. The top two scorers this spring are freshman Daniel Levin and sophomore John Edler at 74.6. Edler is coming off a fourth-place finish at Saint Francis, while Levin was T-7th. Levin has shot 73 in each of his last five rounds.
Sophomore D.J. Magee has a 76.8 spring average, followed by freshman C.J. Zachary at 77.3 and Scialabba at 78.0.
