LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's track and field team looks to match or improve upon an impressive performance at last year's Colonial Relays when the team travels to Williamsburg, Virginia for this year's edition. The event, hosted by William and Mary, will be held on Friday and Saturday.
The Bison were fifth out of 40 teams at last year's event, scoring 51 points. They were just six points behind William and Mary for fourth place, while Rutgers won the event with 111 points.
“I am looking forward to a great Colonial Relays for our women,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “We had a nice rust-buster last weekend, and we seem to be very healthy for the most part. The Colonial Relays is a great team event and it really is a great benchmark to see what kind of team we will be during the outdoor season.”
Sophia Nnadi led the Bucknell effort last season, placing in two events. She was fifth in the hammer throw and eighth in the shot put. Also representing the Bison throwers with solid performances were Stephanie Easse, who was fifth in the hammer throw, and Abigail Brundage, who was eighth in the shot put.
Other current members of the team to score points in individual events for the Bison included Deanna Godby (3,000), Chrissy Haney (400H), and Jen Silvestri (400H). Sarah Chandler, Kim Nagotko, Silvestri, Elyse Pettaway, Godby and Elizabeth Sheprow all participated on relay teams that scored points for the Bison.
The Bison are coming off a great performance at the Monmouth Season Opener, where Kate VanNess (5,000), Christine Bendzinski (3,000), Efe Agege (triple jump), and Pettaway (200) all won individual events.
In other action last weekend, Kate Scott traveled to North Carolina State's Raleigh Relays, where she ran the second-fastest 10,000-meter in program history. She was named the Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week and the Bison Athlete of the Week for her performance.
