LEWISBURG, Pa. – After finishing as the runner-up in each of the past two seasons, the Bucknell women's track and field team will look to reclaim its crown at the Bucknell Team Challenge, to be held at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
The Bison, who won the team title in 2011 and 2012, will be joined at the eight-team event by Binghamton, Duquesne, Lock Haven, Mount St. Mary's, Penn State, Saint Francis and Towson. The Nittany Lions won the title last year with 250 points. Bucknell took second with 133, and Towson was third with 74.
“The Team Challenge gets us back to the basics of scored meets and going for a good place to help the team,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “Although winning the meet is a priority, it is more important that we set ourselves up for the league championship in two weeks and do what is best for our athletes. For some, it is doing their primary events and for others it is doing secondary events to set up for two weeks from now.”
Bucknell has both the reigning Track Athlete of the Week (Kate Scott) and the Rookie of the Week (Efe Agege) in the Patriot League. Scott ran the third-fastest time in the conference in the 5,000-meter run, while Agege posted the league's top distance in the triple jump at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
Justine Schnell was an individual winner at the Team Challenge last season, placing first in the 3,000-meter run. Meghan Carroll also scored in the event with a fourth-place finish.
Jen Silvestri had two top-three finishes last year, taking second in the 400-meter hurdles and third in the 100-meter hurdles. She was joined with runner-up finishes by Kim Nagotko (100m) and Sarah Chandler (1,500m). Sophia Nnadi was third in both the shot put and discus, while Sarah Decker was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
In addition to the action on the track, Bucknell will be honoring multiple individuals for Senior Day, as well as the 1989-90 men's cross country and track and field teams, the 1989 women's cross country team, the 2010 women's cross country and track and field teams and the 2010 men's track and field teams.
