Agege, Bendzinski Pace Bison at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A pair of freshmen had big days for Bucknell on the second and final day of Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational. Efe Agege moved her way up the school's record book in the triple jump, while Christine Bendzinski did the same in the mile.
Agege was already second on the program's record book in the triple jump, but improved on that mark. She finished ninth in a field of 32 with a leap if 40-9 ¾ on her second attempt. Agege is the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
Running the mile for the second time this season, Bendzinski finished 18th out of 72 with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:53.28, a 14-second improvement from two weeks ago. It was also the third-fastest time in program history.
Bendzinski also cracked the school's top-10 list as part of the distance medley relay team that finished eighth on Saturday with a time of 11:55.18. She was joined by Jenn Silvestri, Reagan Cerney and Sarah Chandler on the team that ran the seventh-fastest time on the program's all-time list.
Junior Chrissy Haney moved into the program's top-10 list, coming in at ninth with a time of 57.76 in the 400m.
Comment from head coach Kevin Donner about both events
“We were very hot and cold at both places on Friday evening. It seemed like some of our kids were on fire and others really struggled. Saturday was a great day at both Notre Dame and Youngstown. I believe we settled down after the long trips and had a lot more confidence as a group. It looks like our league lineup is beginning to solidify and both teams seem ready for leagues.”
