LEWISBURG, Pa. -- This weekend, Bucknell men's tennis (3-1) travels to Jersey City, New Jersey to play Saint Peter's University. The contest will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday. With a win, the Bison will eclipse their season total from last year.
We are really looking forward to getting back on the court against Saint Peter's after a good week of practice and some recovery," said Bucknell head coach Craig Schwartz. "I believe that we match up well against them and if we come out firing, we will have a good chance to get the win. This a crucial match to keep the momentum going into the following weekend against two more quality teams in Saint Francis (PA) and Duquesne."
The Bison are moving forward from a busy three-match string last weekend, from which they gained two victories. On Saturday Feb 7, the team fell to nationally-ranked Princeton with a score of 6-1. The Tigers (4-0) took two out of three doubles matches, in addition to the five other singles. Freshmen Ben Gerber accounted for the one point against the Tigers, with a sweep at No. 5 singles. Gerber also took the No. 3 doubles with partner Maxwell Kane.
Later in the day, Bucknell rebounded with a victory against the Fordham Rams, with a score of 6-1. The Bison took five out of six singles matches, with freshman William Szamosszegi taking home his first career win at No.6 singles. Bucknell also notched wins in the two doubles matches that were completed.
To finish up the weekend, Bucknell came out on top 5-2 in a contest versus Hofstra in Hempstead, New York. The Bison swept all three doubles matches and also notched four of six singles wins, including victories by Nick Bybel at No.1 singles, Daniel Wright at No. 4, Gerber at No. 5, and Kane at No. 6.
Saint Peter's enters the match at 4-6 following back-to-back losses to NJIT and Lafayette.
