LEWISBURG – The Bucknell women's track and field team won nine events and added three new ECAC qualifiers at the Bucknell Tune-Up in Gerhard Fieldhouse on Friday night. It is the team's final event before the Patriot League Championships.
“Both teams accomplished exactly what we were hoping today,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “We had some great performances and now we have to make some tough decisions on our league lineup, which was what I was hoping to do. We seem to be primed for a nice league meet next week.”
Christine Bendzinski, Morgan Roche and Abigail Brundage all qualified for the ECAC Championships on Friday.
Bendzinski, who already qualified in the mile, won the 800m with a time of 2:13.82, good enough for eighth on Bucknell's all-time list and just .15 seconds faster than second-place Victoria Mullane of Lehigh.
Roche also topped a Lehigh runner to win her event, taking first in the 1,000m with a time of 2:56.64, while the Mountain Hawks' Ingrid Simon was second and the Bison's Emma Cousins was third.
Brundage was the runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 44-6, which ranks sixth on Bucknell's all-time list. The Bison throwers were also represented by Sophia Nnadi with a runner-up finish in the weight throw.
Kim Nagotko led the Bucknell sprinters by winning the 60-meter dash. She already ranked third in the school record book, but improved her personal-best time to 7.77. Carlie Lucke was the runner-up in the event. Elyse Pettaway was also a winner for the Bison sprinters, taking first in the 400m with a time of 59.47.
Bucknell dominated the competition in the 3,000-meter run, taking the top eight spots in the 22-runner field. Montana DiPietrantonio won the event with a time of 10:15.64, while Meghan Carroll and Brennan Sharkey were second and third, respectively. Justine Schnell added a win in the mile for the Bison distance runners, crossing the line in 5:05.12, while Elizabeth Sheprow was the runner-up.
Lauren Hudson and Jenna Calandro rounded out Bucknell's title winners. Hudson tied for first after clearing 5-5 on her second attempt in the high jump. Calandro was first in the pole vault with a height of 11-3 ¾, while Kristin Sundy and Rebekka Vuojolainen tied for second.
Other notable results for the Bison included runner-up finishes by Reagan Cerney (500m) and Jessica Matsinger (triple jump), and third-place showings by Kimberley Lapszynski (200m), Laura Papili (500m) and Kafilat Oladiran (60m hurdles). Katie Sabatino, Andrea Bourgal, Emma Harris and Sarah Chandler each ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team.
The Patriot League Championships will be held at Navy on Feb. 20-22.
