Varano Wins Two Events In The Pentathlon on First Day of Bison Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell sophomore Alison Varano opened the indoor track and field season by winning two events in the pentathlon to place second overall on the first day of the Bison Opener at Gerhard Fieldhouse. The Bison took three of the top five spots in the 11-athlete field as Harper Stewart and Isabella Bjorkeson finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Varano finished first in the shot put with a toss of 9.62 meters for 505 points. She followed up her performance with a 5.27-meter effort in the long jump for 634 points. Varano finished with 3,103 points, while Haley Kramer of Bloomsburg finished first overall with 3,163 points. Stewart tallied 2,977 points, while Bjorkeson posted 2,961 points.
Stewart was the runner-up in the 800-meter run, while Bjorkeson placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters on her first attempt.
Action resumes with the completion of the men's heptathlon at 8 a.m. The field events will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the running events get underway at 11 a.m.
