
Men's Tennis Claims Two Titles at Home Tourney

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's tennis team had finalists in all three singles flights and both doubles flights, and the Bison came away with two championships at their season-opening home tournament on Sunday at the Gerhard Fieldhouse Courts. Nick Bybel won the A Singles flight, and Octavio Canibe and Ben Gerber were victorious at B Doubles.
All three singles flights featured matchups between Bucknell and Concordia in the finals. In the A bracket it was Bybel coming from behind to defeat Benas Majauskas 3-6, 6-1, (10-2). Bybel also advanced to the A Doubles final with Maxwell Kane, but that tandem fall to Majauskas and Lorenzo Montaglorgi 8-5.
Freshman Timber Erskine concluded a strong opening weekend with a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Ofir Ginat in the C Singles final. Erskine posted 14-12 third-set super-tiebreaker wins in both his quarterfinal and semifinal matches.
Canibe and Gerber capped off a dominant weekend with an 8-6 win over Loyola's Matt Beijan and Max Shanbrom at B Doubles.
At B Singles, Canibe fell to Concordia's Miguel Righi 6-2, 6-2.
The Bison will be back in action Sept. 19-21 at the Saint Joseph's Invitational.
