LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Rounds of 74 and 72 by senior Peter Scialabba helped the Bucknell men's golf team to a third-place standing after 36 holes of the Bucknell Invitational. Scialabba sits in fourth place on the individual leaderboard with a 146 composite, and freshman Daniel Levin, playing as an individual, is in eighth place at 149 (74-75).
Saturday's morning round was played in a chilly rain, but the sun came out in the afternoon and warmed things up for round two. Bucknell actually posted the same score -- 303 -- in both rounds, although eight of the 10 teams in the field improved their scores in better conditions in the afternoon.
Defending champion Dartmouth posted rounds of 299 and 294, and the Big Green has a five-shot lead over Lafayette with 18 holes left to play. The Leopards started with a 308, then improved to a 290 in round two thanks in large part to a 5-under-par 65 from Art Griffin. Griffin is 4-under for the tournament and has a two-stroke lead over Pierre Alexandre Bedard of Laval, who shot 67-71.
Backing up Scialabba for the Bison were sophomores D.J. Magee (77-76) and Zachary Melnick (75-78), who are tied for 16th place at 153. Sophomore John Edler, who spent the day playing with his brother Charlie Edler of Dartmouth, carded a pair of 77s, and freshman C.J. Zachary shot 81-80.
Levin has the lowest score by a six-shot margin among the seven unattached players in the field. Two other Bison freshmen are also competing as individuals. Austin Honigford shot 78 in both rounds, and J.B. Thompson posted 93-79.
The third and final round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
