Women's Track & Field Finishes Second in Team Challenge

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's track and field team competed in its second scored meet of the season on Saturday when it hosted the Bucknell Team Challenge at the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Bison finished second in the field of seven teams with 133 points, as 20 individuals and two relays scored points for the squad.
“Our ladies had an up-and-down meet,” commented head coach Kevin Donner. “We had a lot of personal and season bests and our league lineup is starting to become clear, but we also had a few setbacks that we will need to resolve in the next couple of weeks.”
Junior Kim Nagotko and senior Jennifer Zymet highlighted Bucknell's performance in the shorter events, with Nagotko finishing second in the 100m (12.13) and tying for sixth with Zyment in the 200m (25.01). Zymet also competed in the 400m, winning the event with an ECAC-qualifying time of 55.60. Sophomore Jenn Silvestri led the way in the sprint hurdle events, finishing second in the 400m (1:02.24) and third in the 100m. Freshmen Laura Papili (1:04.83) and Seline Tan Torres (1:05.16) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400m event. Senior Hana Casalnova won the 800m, also qualifying for ECACs with a time of 2:10.29, while junior Betsy Edinger (2:14.50) and senior Emily Waksmunski (2:14.89) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Bucknell also turned in strong performances in the distance events, highlighted by junior Justine Schnell's winning performance of 10:04.33 in the 3000m. Sophomore Meghan Carroll also placed in the event, finishing fourth with a time of 10:21.66. Freshmen Michaella Irvine and Sarah Decker finished second and third, respectively, in the 3000m steeplechase, and classmate Sarah Chandler led a trio of Bison who scored in the 1500m, finishing second with a time of 4:36.38.
Several Bison also scored in the field events, led by sophomore Sophia Nnadi, who placed third in the shot put (44-06.75), third in the discus (141-02) and fifth in the hammer (150-01). Senior Alyssa Cardillo placed third in the long jump (18-03.25), sophomore Abigail Brundage was fourth in the shot put (40-09.00), and senior Autumn Schellenberger and freshman Kimberly Lapszynski finished sixth in their respective events.
Bucknell will return to action on Thursday when it heads to Philadelphia to compete in the Penn Relays.
