ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Peter Scialabba posted a 4-over-par 75 to lead Bucknell to a 308 team score and an 11th-place standing in a field of 18 teams after one round of the Navy Invitational on Friday. Schuyler Stitzer shot 76 and John Edler posted a 77 for the Bison, who are playing a final tuneup prior to next week's Patriot League Championship at West Point.
The Bison are tied for 11th place with Emory after one round of play, but they are only seven shots behind third-place Navy in a tightly bunched field. Towson and Saint Francis (Pa.) both opened with 296 team scores and lead the host Midshipmen by five strokes. Saint Joseph's is third at 302, followed by Cornell (303), Rhode Island (304) and Drexel (304).
Bucknell leads three other Patriot League teams in the field, as Lehigh posted a 310, Colgate 311 and Lafayette 313.
In addition to the three scores in the 70s, the Bison also received an 80 from Nick Geissler and an 83 from Thomas Walter.
T.J. McNulty of Saint Francis fired a 4-under 67 to jump out in front on the individual leaderboard. Siena's Michael Shine, Towson's Joe Gunerman and Saint Francis' Shane Crampton are all 1-under.
The second and final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
