Track and Field Cruises Through First Day of Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – It was a beautiful day for a track meet, and the Bucknell track and field team took full advantage of the gorgeous weather and strong competition, turning in a slew of strong performances on the first day of the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by the squad at the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Seven ECAC/IC4A qualifying times and two program top-ten marks highlighted the strong outing for the Bison.
Four members of the women's squad highlighted the team's performance on the track, led by seniors Hana Casalnova and Emily Waksmunski, who both competed in the 1500m race. Casalnova finished fifth in the event with a time of 4:30.69, an ECAC qualifying time that makes her the sixth-fastest performer in program history, while Waksmunski's time of 4:35.06 placed her seventh. Senior Deanna Godby and junior Becky Snelson also ran strong races, both achieving ECAC qualifying times in their respective events. Godby ran a time of 17:15.82 in the 5000m, ranking her sixth on the program's list of top-ten performers, while Snelson cruised to a time of 37:20.50 in the 10000m event.
In the men's track events, senior Tyler Erhard and junior Andrew Garcia-Garrison turned in Bucknell's top performances, each finishing third and achieving IC4A qualifying times in their respective events. Erhard raced to a time of 9:10.16 in the 3000m steeplechase, while Garcia-Garrison produced a time of 14:28.43 in the 5000m. In addition, senior Eric Balaban qualified for the IC4A meet in the 10000m with a time of 30:44.00.
The field events were also filled with strong performances, with male and female Bison placing in the javelin, discus and long jump. Sophomore Dayna Simone and junior Laddie Trees both finished sixth in the javelin, with Simone producing a time of 130-07 and Trees turning in an IC4A-qualifying toss of 196-04. In the discus, sophomore Sophia Nnadi turned in a heave of 139-01 to place third on the women's side, while juniors Jack Fellows and Brian Monahan finished fifth and sixth, respectively, on the men's side. Fellows' toss of 157-07 qualified him for the IC4A meet, while Monahan produced a mark of 150-00. Two Bison also placed in the long jump, with junior Kevin Tapper earning the team's sole win of the day with his leap of 22-09.00. Senior Alyssa Cardillo placed fourth on the women's side of the event, turning in a mark of 18-03.25.
Bucknell will conclude competition in the Bison Outdoor Classic on Sunday, with field events starting at 10:30 a.m. and action on the track beginning at 11 a.m. The link to live results will be available on the track and field schedule pages on BucknellBison.com.
