LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's lacrosse team pumped in a season-high 18 goals in a big Patriot League win over Holy Cross on Saturday, and sophomore attackman Sean Doyle had a hand in eight of them. After setting career highs with six assists and eight points, Doyle has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week.
Bucknell and Holy Cross were all knotted up at 2-2 entering the second quarter, and then the Bison exploded for five straight goals in the first 6:30 of the period to take control of the game. Doyle assisted on two of those goals and scored once himself in that run.
After the Crusaders pulled within 8-6 early in the third quarter, Doyle picked out Tom Black for a man-up goal and then set up Todd Heritage for one of his five tallies on the day, and the Bison outscored Holy Cross 10-2 the rest of the way.
Doyle also had a goal and an assist in a loss at No. 5/6 North Carolina earlier in the week.
Doyle, the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year, leads the team in goals (11), assists (12) and points (23) this season. He ranks second in the Patriot League in assists and sixth in total points.
Bucknell is 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League with two home games on the horizon this week. The Bison will host Brown at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Patriot League newcomer Boston University on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both games will air on Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network.
