LEWISBURG, Pa. – After turning in an extremely impressive performance at the prestigious Penn State National Invitational on Friday, freshman Catherine Scott (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) was selected as the M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. Scott earns the first accolade of her indoor track and field career and her second Patriot League honor this year, as she was chosen as the conference's Rookie of the Week on Sept. 30 during the cross country season.
Scott has proven herself a formidable force on the Patriot League distance circuit in the first months of her freshman year with the Bison, carrying the momentum from a successful cross country season into the early meets of the track campaign. Bucknell's top rookie at the cross country conference championships, Scott finished 20th in the 6K race and helped her squad to a fourth place finish. After finishing second in the 3000 with a strong time of 10:13.27 at the Gulden Invite, Scott turned in a lightning fast performance in the unseeded 5000 at Penn State. The rookie won the event by more than three seconds, finishing with a time of 17:30.53. The mark surpassed the ECAC cut time and makes her the eighth-fastest performer in the event in program history.
Scott and the rest of the Bison will continue their preparation for the upcoming Patriot League Championships this weekend when the team splits between two competitions. Part of the squad will travel to the Akron Invitational, while the rest of the team will head to the Youngstown State Invitational. Both meets begin on Friday, Feb. 7 and continue through Saturday, Feb. 8.
