LEWISBURG, Pa. – Emma Levendoski, Julianna Foss and Tara Boyle were double winners for the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team Saturday afternoon against Colgate, but the Raiders outscored the Bison 26-10 over the final two swimming events to edge Bucknell 150-148. It was the closest dual meet in eight years for the Bison, who fell to 3-4, 2-3 PL.
Bucknell last had a result closer than Saturday's two-point decision in November of 2006 when it tied Lafayette, 150-150.
The meet was not decided until the very end when Colgate's (6-0) Flora Hanson and Meghan Shroyer finished 1-2 in the 200 IM and the Raiders then followed by taking the first and third positions in the 400 free relay.
Bucknell had plenty of positives to take from the meet, including the wins by Levendoski, Foss and Boyle. Levendoski swept the backstroke events for the fifth time in six meets this year. She won those two races by a total of 5.13 seconds. Foss won the 100 and 200 fly races, including leading a 1-2-3-4 Bucknell sweep of the 200 fly. Boyle won both diving events as the Bison had the top four finishers off the one-meter board and the top five off the three-meter.
As has been the case throughout much of the season, Bucknell used its depth to its advantage. The Bison had at least two of the top three finishers in seven events and had at least one finisher in the top two in 13 events, including three (200 fly, one-meter diving, three-meter diving) with both the first- and second-place finishers.
Joining Levendoski, Foss and Boyle in the winner's circle was Diana Hanson, who touched the wall first in the 200 breast. She was also the top Bison finisher in the 200 breast, recording a second-place showing.
Dani Potis had a strong day as she was Bucknell's top finisher in both the 500 and 1,000 free, earning a silver medal in each. Lauren Perry was also strong with a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 free. She was also part of the second-place 400 free relay with Levendoski, Maddi Marcheskie and Rachel McGoff.
Levendoski, Ashley Henderson, Foss and Maddi Marcheskie opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay.
Saturday's meet concluded first-semester competition for the Bison, who will return to action Jan. 10 with a home meet vs. Army.
