LEWISBURG, Pa. – Eleven different Bison individuals recorded first-place finishes as the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 against Patriot League competition with a 202-86 win over Colgate (0-6) Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium.
The Bison dominated the meet, officially winning 14 events before swimming the final two (200 IM, 400 free relay) as exhibitions. Bucknell still had the fastest times in those two events as Bison – led by Louis Behnen – were the top six finishers in the 200 IM and four Bucknell relay squads touched the wall before the Raiders in the 400 free relay.
Freshman Chris Devlin (200 free, 500 free) and sophomore Jack Robinson (100 back, 100 free) were the only two double-winners for the Bison, who swept the top three spots in six different events during the meet.
Denver Freeman (1,000 free), Ben Seketa (100 breast), Erik Heinemann (200 fly), Steve Grune (50 free), Sam Rutan (200 back), Sam Mackie (200 breast), Triston Loux (100 fly), Jon Jones (one-meter diving) and Tyler Wenzel (three-meter diving) were Bucknell's other winners.
Jones won the one-meter diving competition with a career-best score of 265.95, which moved him up from No. 7 to No. 5 on the program's all-time list.
A few of the more impressive swimming performances came from Heinemann, Mackie and Loux, who each won his race by a wide margin. Heinemann claimed the 200 fly by 2.36 seconds, while Mackie won the 200 breast by 3.53 over teammate Tim Perley. Loux touched the wall 1.20 ahead of runner-up teammate JT Nangle in the 100 fly.
Will Rappaport, Wes Marberry, Nangle and Grune were the winning 200 medley relay squad, while Rutan, Kyle Bloom, Stephen Hollinshead and Devlin had the best time in the 400 free relay.
Saturday's meet concluded first-semester competition for the Bison, who will return to action Jan. 10 with a home meet vs. Army.
