LEWISBURG, Pa. – Louis Behnen won three races and Chris Devlin and Ben Seketa captured two victories apiece, but the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team fell short in its attempt at defeating Army for the first time since 2011-12 Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison lost to the Black Knights by a 167-133 score to fall to 5-3, 4-2 PL on the year. Army improved to 5-3, 2-1 PL.
Bucknell took home more first-place finishes (9-7) than the Black Knights in the meet. However, Army had the top two finishers in five different events, including a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 fly and a 1-2-3-4 sweep of the 100 free.
Behnen was the standout for the Bison with three individual victories on the day. He won the 200 IM, 500 free and 1,000 free to pace all Bucknell student-athletes. Behnen now has 10 first-place finishes this year across five different events.
Devlin swept the 100 and 200 backstrokes for his two victories. He also placed third in the 200 IM, just two spots behind Behnen. The freshman has now swept the backstroke races in three meets this season.
Seketa won the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, marking his third sweep of those events this season. He also swam the 200 IM and was part of Bucknell's top 200 medley relay foursome that finished in third place behind two Army squads.
Bucknell's talented youth was exhibited in the 12 individual swimming events as the top Bison finisher was a freshman in six races and a sophomore in three others.
Bucknell was strong in the diving events as well with Jon Jones and Tyler Wenzel finishing 1-2 off the one-meter board and Wenzel claiming first off the three-meter board with a score of 274.50, his third straight three-meter score above 270.
Saturday's meet was just the beginning of a busy weekend for Bucknell, which will travel to Vestal, New York, Sunday at 1 p.m. to take on non-league foe Binghamton.
