LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Chris Devlin entered Sunday's final day of the Bucknell Invitational ranked in the top 10 in school history in four events with his best ranking being second in the 200 back. He exited the day ranked first in the 200 back as he broke the four-year-old school record, helping the Bison to a second-place finish in the nine-team field.
Bucknell finished 22.5 points ahead of third-place La Salle. Yale was the team champion.
Devlin's school record came when he won the morning prelims in 1:47.45, beating out Thomas Brown's school record by .40. The rookie then finished second in the finals in 1:47.65, marking the top finish for a Bison in the six events contested Sunday.
Jack Robinson gave Bucknell two “A” finalists in the 200 back as he placed seventh. It was the only event on Sunday where two Bison were in the top final.
Sophomore Louis Behnen had the second-best finish of the day for Bucknell, placing fourth in the 1,650 free, while Ben Seketa was the team's top finisher in the 200 breast, touching the wall fifth. Sam Mackie was 12th in the event, but his prelim time of 2:05.34 moved him into eighth place in the school record book.
Other top finishers for the Bison were Triston Loux (sixth in 200 fly) and Steve Grune (seventh in 100 free).
Robinson, Behnen, Grune and Devlin teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the 400 free relay.
Bucknell will return to the pool next on Dec. 6 when it hosts Colgate at 1 p.m.
