Bybel Advances to Semifinals at Virginia Fall Classic

Nick Bybel won his first match in Blue Singles over Egon Samaii from Liberty, 6-3, 6-3. With this win, the junior reached 100 total career wins at Bucknell.
Bybel went on to play Princeton's Luke Gamble and came out with the win. He will face Cornell's Bernardo Casares in the semifinal round at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
In Orange Singles, freshman Maxwell Kane was defeated by Vitni Stefan from Cornell, 6-1, 6-4. Senior Octavio Canibe lost his first match in Black Singles to Ismael Merino from East Tennessee State, 6-1, 6-2. Kane and Canibe both fell short in their consolation matches.
Daniel Wright was defeated by Igor Braga of Norfolk State, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. He received a bye in the consolation round, and will face Radford's Michell Meekers on Sunday at 9 a.m.
In Gold Singles, freshman Ben Gerber succeeded in his first match over East Tennessee State's Umberto Setter, 7-5, 6-3. He was knocked out of the tournament in the next round, losing a close one to UMBC's Biyik Akinshemoyin, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Gerber's singles record sits at 7-3.
Sophomore Bryan Adams lost a match to Lars de Boer from William and Mary. He did not compete in consolation play due to an injury.
Bybel hopes to pull off a win for his team and leave the tournament with a title. Match play will conclude on Sunday afternoon.
