Bybel Wins Top Singles Title at Virginia Fall Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The men's tennis team participated in the three-day Virginia Fall Classic this weekend. The tournament consisted of 17 schools, and Bucknell was able to claim the top victory overall.

Junior Nick Bybel played in the final round of Blue Singles on Sunday morning, when he defeated Jai Corbett from Virginia Tech, 3-6, 6-4, 10-2. Bybel has won in every singles tournament he's played in this fall.

Freshman Maxwell Kane won in a consolation match in Orange Singles (4-6, 6-3, 10-3), but was defeated in the 13^th place bracket. Senior Octavio Canibe pulled off a win in the Black Singles consolation, claiming 13^th place over Jeremy Gibbens-Schneiderof UMBC, 6-3, 6-2.

In White Singles, Daniel Wright had advanced to the semifinal round on Saturday, but fell short to Michell Meekers on Sunday (6-4, 6-1). Ben Gerber participated in Gold Singles consolation matches for fifth and seventh place, but wasn't able to come out on top over opponents from Davidson and GMU.

The Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Charlottesville, Va. are all that remains of Bucknell's fall schedule. The tournament begins on Thursday, Oct. 16, and more information will be available as the date approaches.
