Women's Golf Opens Play at Nittany Lion Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's golf team struggled in breezy conditions on day one of Penn State's Nittany Lion Invitational on Friday. The Bison posted an opening-round score of 340 in the play-six, count-four format. Emily Larson and Jen Lee led the way with 84s.
Meghan Garanich carded an 85 for the Bison, while Nicole Mischler shot 87, Emily Timmons 88 and Callie Nelson 92.
The Bison are in 14th place, one spot behind the host Nittany Lions. Yale posted a 296 in the first round and has a one-shot lead over Columbia. Western Michigan (298), Harvard (302) and Princeton (304) round out the top five.
Penn State's Ariana Coyle, playing as an individual, fired a 4-under-par 68 to take the individual lead by two strokes over Anna Wilcoxson of Western Michigan and Elisabeth Bernabe of Yale.
The tournament continues with 18-hole sessions on Saturday and Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course.
