Bison Fall Short on Day Two of Tournament, Bybel to Play Saturday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- On Friday, Bucknell participated in day two of the ITA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament at the University of Virginia. The Bison collected three wins on day one in the qualifying round, but were unable to advance on the first day of main draws.

In singles play, freshman Daniel Wright was defeated by Christian Cargill from William and Mary, 6-0, 6-0. His classmate Maxwell Kane lost to Richmond's Alex Hahn, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. Kane will have the opportunity to play in the consolation round on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Temple's Santiago Canete.

Junior Nick Bybel received a bye for the first round of singles play, and was recognized as one of the top 16 seeds in the tournament. He is the last remaining player to represent the Bison in the main draw. At 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, he is set to face Addison Appleby from William and Mary.

Bybel and Kane were ranked as a top 16 duo in doubles play, but were unable to pull off a win in their first match. They were defeated by Rich Robbie and Corey Robinson from Duquesne, 8-2. Bybel and Kane still boast an impressive doubles record that now sits at 9-3.

Also in doubles, Wright and senior Octavio Canibe lost to Temple's Santiago Canete and Filip Stipcic in a close match, 8-6.

Kane will play a consolation match and Bybel will compete in his first singles match of the tournament on Saturday, Oct. 18.
