ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Clare MacAdam scored two goals to lift host Navy to a 3-0 victory over Bucknell on Friday at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility, ending the Bison's four-game unbeaten streak. The two teams entered the night even with seven points in the Patriot League standings, but the Mids picked up the three points and moved into a first-place tie with Colgate.
Bucknell tasted defeat for the first time since Sept. 23 at Penn State and fell to 7-6-2 overall, 2-2-1 in the Patriot League. Navy is now 7-3-4, 3-1-1 and has lost just once in its last 11 outings.
After the start of the match was delayed 30 minutes because the Bison were delayed in heavy traffic while traveling to Annapolis, the Mids got on the board first in the 16th minute, taking advantage of a Bison turnover. Caprice Kelty set up MacAdam for a shot inside the far post.
It was still a 1-0 game coming out of the halftime break, but just 9:30 into the second half MacAdam found the net again, this time off an assist from Rachel Hunter. Rachel Feldman added another insurance marker in the 78th minute on a shot from about 25 yards out.
Navy finished with a 12-6 shot advantage, while the Bison led in corner kicks 4-3. Jessica Ratner made her second straight start in goal for Bucknell and made three saves. Navy keeper Dayton Wetherby also made three stops before being replaced by Taygan Grundy in the 84th minute.
The Bison will now have seven days of rest before traveling to Colgate on Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.
