DES MOINES, Iowa - Bucknell track and field's traditional spring schedule ended weeks ago, but Andrew Kuchta and Chrissy Haney continued competing this week at USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium. Rising sophomores Kuchta and Haney both earned top-20 finishes in the 5,000 meters and 400-meter hurdles, respectively, representing the Bison at the national meet.
Kuchta competed on Thursday evening, finishing the 5K in 15:36.84 and placing 18th in the standings. Penn's Thomas Awad took the title in 15:00.67
"Andrew was seeded 24th, so he ran a pretty good race to finish 18th," said head coach Kevin Donner. "He was at a disadvantage because his last track race was at the end of April. However, the extra six weeks of speed work and training to go along with the experience of running in a U.S. championship will pay off in the future. We look for Andrew to play a major role in our program when he is a sophomore."
Haney continued for the Bison on Friday afternoon where she took 15th in the prelims of the 400 hurdles. Her time at the Junior National Championships of 1:01.81 was less than one second of her best during the collegiate campaign.
Jade Miller, competing unattached, won the 400 hurdles in 58.52 seconds.
