Bucknell Women's Rowing Earns Record Four Medals at Dad Vail Regatta, Lightweight Eight Wins Gold for Fourth Time in Five Years

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Schuylkill River) -Bucknell's lightweight eight won gold at the Dad Vail Regatta for the fourth time in the last five years and the Bison women's rowing team earned a program-record four medals overall. Bucknell's five boats in the finals was also a program best as Bison boats combined for a gold, silver and two bronze medals as the squad finished second in the overall team standings.
The lightweight eight defeated MIT, Tulsa and Purdue in Saturday's final to claim gold in its only race of the weekend.
The varsity four had a second-place showing in its final, while the varsity eight and second varsity eight both posted third-place finishes. The lightweight four was sixth in its final, rounding out the list of five Bucknell boats with finals appearances.
Five Bison boats had strong showings during Friday's races to advance to Saturday's action. The lightweight eight already had its finals appearance secured without racing on Friday.
The varsity eight and varsity four both won their Saturday morning semifinals to advance to their finals races.
The second varsity eight just missed out on a silver medal in its final. It was just .224 seconds behind second-place UMass.
The Bison finished three points behind Grand Valley in the team standings as they tried to win the overall points trophy for the second consecutive year. Drexel and UMass were tied for third with 15 points, six behind Bucknell's 21.
Bucknell will now turn its attention to the Patriot League Championship, which will be held Friday, May 17, on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Bison have won seven consecutive Patriot League titles. For the first time this year's Patriot League champion will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
