Three Bucknell Women's Rowing Boats Place First During Heats at Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADEPHIA, Pa. (Schuylkill River) –Five Bucknell women's rowing boats were in action Friday at the Dad Vail Regatta and thanks to strong performances all five of them advanced to Saturday at the prestigious two-day event. The varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four each finished first in their heats, while the lightweight four and freshman eight were second in their heats.
The varsity eight, varsity four and freshman eight will compete in Saturday morning's semifinals, while the second varsity eight and lightweight four earned berths in their finals.
The second varsity eight experienced the closest race of the day for the Bison as they edged Temple by less than one-tenth of a second. The varsity eight had the largest Bucknell victory of the day, defeating runner-up Dayton by more than eight seconds.
A total of six Bison boats will be in action on Saturday as the lightweight eight is already slated to compete in its four-boat final as it goes for its fourth Dad Vail gold medal in the last five years. Bucknell is aiming for a second consecutive team points crown.
Saturday's Dad Vail competition kicks off at 7 a.m. The freshman eight will be the Bison's first boat in the water at 8:02 a.m.
