LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Laura Kleiber scored five goals and Ana White and Addie Godfrey added three each to lead visiting Lafayette to a 13-8 win over Bucknell on Saturday at sunny Graham Field. Katelyn Miller, Ryan Wenk and Adrienne Wendling scored twice each for the Bison.
It was an even game for better than 20 minutes, as neither team built a lead of more than one goal. The Bison had early 1-0 and 2-0 advantages on goals by Sam Rickels and Wendling. Lafayette's White scored two in a row before Cori Thielemann tied it at 3-all with 14:31 left in the opening half.
Kleiber's unassisted goal with 10:31 left kicked off a 6-0 surge for the Leopards. Lafayette led 7-3 at the half and then 9-3 after a pair of goals by Kleiber early in the second.
Bucknell ended a 24-minute scoring drought when Ryan Wenk came from behind the cage to score, and then Wenk fed Wendling to make it 9-5 with 18:10 left. The Bison had a possession to get even closer, but a shot missed the net and was backed up by Lafayette. The Leopards cleared, and then Godfrey scored on an 8-meter attempt to start a 3-0 run that sealed the game.
Lafayette finished with a narrow 22-20 edge in shots and led 19-15 in ground balls. Meghan Curtin made nine saves for the Leopards, including seven in the second half, while Caroline O'Neill had four for Bucknell.
Caroline Collins had a strong game for the Bison in the midfield. She logged three caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls, and she was also robbed by Curtin from point-blank range in the second half.
White had five ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers for Lafayette (8-6, 2-2). She is the Patriot League leader in each of those categories.
Bucknell (2-11, 0-5 PL) will be back in action on Tuesday at home against St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m.
