LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Sasha Hornock (Dover, Pa./Dover), a captain on the women's track and field team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held in Terrace Room on Tuesday, April 30.
Hornock won the Bradley N. Tufts Award, presented "in recognition of exceptional athletic achievement and contributions to Bucknell athletics." Hornock shared the award with Justin Hicks of the men's track and field team, who was the male selection.
Although her career is not yet complete, Hornock already has helped Bucknell to five team titles - three in indoor track and two outdoors. Individually, the sprinter has claimed three First Team All-Patriot League citations and has been named to the Second Team on four occasions. Twice she has been a member of the winning 4x100 at the Patriot League Championships and twice she has helped to set a school record in the event at the league meet. Hornock also earned gold in the 60 meters at the 2011 Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships, tying the school record at the meet.
Hornock currently holds four school records at Bucknell. In addition to the 4x100, she also has the standard in the 4x200 as well as the 60 meters and indoor 4x400 and ranks in the program's top 10 in the indoor 200 meters and sprint medley and the 100 and 200 meters and long jump outdoors. Many of those times have earned her trips to the ECAC Championships where she competed both indoors and outdoors on two separate occasions.
In the classroom, Hornock carries a 3.54 grade-point average as a biology major. That success has earned her two appointments to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. She has also been named to the Bucknell Dean's List for six terms and is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Bucknell is a highly-selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of 3,500 undergraduate students.
