LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison women's track and field team hosted the Bucknell Mini Meet on Saturday to end a month-long layoff. Bucknell posted five victories in the 15 events contested during the meet that featured competitors from Hagerstown, Mount St. Mary's, Gwyned-Mercy and Bloomsburg, in addition to a handful of unattached athletes.
Hana Casalnova (500-meter dash), Emily Waksmunski (1,000), Jennifer Zymet (200), Alexandra Romanelli (triple jump) and Devon McDonald (high jump) posted Bucknell's victories.
A total of 10 athletes competed in the 500 and the top four finishers were Bison, led by Casalnova. Her time of 1 minute, 18.38 seconds was nearly four seconds faster than runner-up teammate Morgan Roche.
Waksmunski beat out teammate Emily Wheeler for first in three-person 1,000, while Zymet won the 200 by .12 seconds. Shasha Hornock was third in that event. She was the top Bucknell finisher in the 60, crossing the line in 7.85, .10 shy of her own school record. Just behind her in the 60 was Kim Nagotko, whose time of 7.97 placed her sixth in the Bison record books.
Romanelli had plenty of success in the field events. In addition to winning the triple jump, she placed second in the long jump.
Bucknell's top finisher in each event was no lower than second place and the Bison had at least two of the top three finishers in an event 10 times, including eight out of nine running events.
Bucknell, which had not competed since Dec. 1, will take two weeks off before hosting the Gulden Invitational Jan. 19.
