LEWISBURG, Pa. - Emily Ando and Beth Braunegg both claimed victories at the Penn State National Invitational at University Park, Pa., and Leah Goeke did the same at the Bison Open & Multi at Gerhard Fieldhouse as Bucknell women's track and field wrapped up a busy weekend. Among the highlights were also six program top-10 marks that fell, including a 200-meter performance from Kim Nagotko who set career bests in the event in back-to-back days.
Ando, who finished second in the pole vault at the Bison Open & Multi yesterday, came back for the win at the Penn State National Invitational this afternoon. The junior fell just shy of her personal record, which she also tied yesterday, however. Ando cleared 11-7 ¾ at Ashenfelter Track.
Braunegg was Bucknell's winner on the track at Penn State. The junior was the top finisher in the 1,000 meters, clocking in at 2:53.03. That was a career best for Braunegg, who currently ranks second all-time at Bucknell. Placing fourth in the same race was Kylie Pearse in 2:57.37.
Other highlights on the track included Nagotko's time of 25.27 seconds in the 200 meters. Her previous personal best came in yesterday's prelims at the Bison Open & Multi. She scratched from today's final to make the trip to Penn State where she ran the fourth-fastest time in program annals and took 17th in the race.
Also in the sprints at Penn State, Jennifer Zymet took 13th in the 400 meters. Her time of 57.35 was the best of her career and good enough to rank fifth at Bucknell.
Other top-10 marks that fell on Saturday came courtesy of Caroline Tolli and Katie Jessee in the 3,000 meters. The duo finished third and fifth, respectively. Tolli's time of 9:56.58 is eighth in program history, while Jessee's 9:59.67 is 10th. Neither Bison was ranked in the event entering the meet. In the mile, Hana Casalnova now owns the 10th-fastest time in program history at 4:59.53. She was fourth overall.
Back at home, Goeke claimed her first gold medal of the season, this one coming in the 1,000 meters (3:09.28). The senior was one of 11 Bison to finish among the top five in their respective events. Jess Bridle was second in the 400 meters (59.69), while Alyssa Cardillo was runner-up in the long jump (17-8 ¾). Maddie Dulac (3,000m, 10:24.67), Abby Monaghan (weight throw, 49-6 ¼) and Meghan Kirk (high jump, 5-3) earned third-place finishes as well.
Bucknell has just two more meets scheduled before heading to West Point for the Patriot League Championships. First up will be the Youngstown State Invitational Feb. 1-2 in Youngstown, Ohio.
