LEWISBURG, Pa. - Christian Treat, Mike Nicholson, Steve Grune and Matt Hadley were all multi-winners, but Bucknell men's swimming and diving was edged out by Army 165-135 at Kinney Natatorium on Saturday. The Bison quartet had a hand in each of the team's seven wins. Tyler Wenzel also put up the top performance of his diving career, setting a new top-10 mark on the 1-meter board.
Treat, Nicholson and Grune joined Hadley for a win in the 200 medley relay. The victory came in a time of 1:34.05 and set up those last three relay legs for victories later in the day. Treat was also a winner in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. Treat won the breaststroke with a time of 57.63, just beating out Ben Seketa, who was second in 57.93. Treat's gold in the 200 IM came in 1:55.20, more than one second over the second-place swimmer from Army.
Treat's day didn't only consist of wins. The senior was also second in the 200 breast as he was beat out only by Nicholson's time of 2:05.19. The 200 butterfly went to Nicholson easily earlier in the meet as he finished in 1:49.66. He was the only swimmer to finish in under 1:51.00.
Rounding out the group of double and triple winners was Grune who capped things off with a gold medal in the 50 freestyle. Just four-tenths of a second separated him from third-place teammate Trevor Reitz as the duo finished in 21.18 and 21.58 seconds, respectively.
Collecting the final victory for the Bison was the 400 freestyle relay. The unit of Cameron James, Chris Ortiz, Hadley and Reitz took the top spot with a time of 3:07.59.
Although missing out on a podium spot, Wenzel posted a 1-meter diving score of 263.25. That earned him fourth place in the meet and the No. 4 spot on Bucknell's all-time top10 list.
Bucknell and Lehigh will square off on Jan. 26 as the Bison continue their stretch of meets at Kinney Natatorium. Competition between the Bison and the Mountain Hawks will get underway at 1 p.m.
