LEWISBURG, Pa. - Ben Seketa, Mike Nicholson and Will Rappaport each won two events and the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team claimed 11 first-place finishes overall as it closed out the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 175-118 victory over Lehigh Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison improved to 6-4 overall and 4-2 against Patriot League competition as they defeated the Mountain Hawks for the fifth time in the last six years.
Seketa won the 100 breast and 200 breast, while Rappaport swept the backstroke events. Nicholson claimed first in the 100 fly and 200 fly. He also touched the wall first in the 400 IM, but was swimming the event as an exhibition due to Bucknell having already wrapped up the meet.
Seketa teamed with Tim Perley and Sam Mackie to sweep the top three spots in both breaststroke events. He finished 1.42 seconds ahead of second-place Perley in the 100 and nearly three seconds ahead of runner-up Perley in the 200. It marked the third time this season Seketa has swept both events in a dual.
Rappaport was the top finisher in both backstrokes. In fact, he was the only Bison to finish in the top three in either event. He won the 200 back by 2.26 seconds, touching the wall in 1 minute, 54.11 seconds.
Nicholson added to his already impressive resume as he won for the 23rd and 24th times this season with his sweep of the butterfly events. He also swam the third leg of the winning 200 medley relay squad.
Billy Krause (500 free), Trevor Reitz (100 free) and Christian Treat (200 free) were Bucknell's other winners in the pool, while Tyler Wenzel claimed the one-meter diving competition. The freshman diver also registered a second-place finish off the three-meter board as the Bison had three of the four diving entrants.
Bucknell showed plenty of depth in the meet as it swept the top three places three times. In addition to Seketa, Perley and Mackie sweeping the breaststroke races, Treat, Chris Ortiz and Matt Hadley went 1-2-3 in the 200 free.
Prior to the meet 11 Bison seniors were honored during Senior Day festivities. On the men's side, Mike Davitt, Billy Krause, Matthew Stevens, Bryce Suchomel and Christian Treat were recognized, while Lisa Bolle, Anna Griest, Morgan Oxley, Elizabeth Porcellio, Kelly Purcell and Marisa Taddeo were honored on the women's side.
Bucknell will wrap up its regular season next Saturday, Feb. 2, when it hosts the Bison Invite. The start time of the event has been adjusted to 10 a.m.
