LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's golf team kicked off the 2012 fall season Saturday with the first two rounds of its own fall invitational, and the two-time defending champion Bison got off to a solid start before slipping back some in the afternoon round. Led by a 76 and a 77 from Bridget Wilcox, Bucknell posted rounds of 316 and 327 to stand in eighth place with 18 holes still to play.
Radford (618) used a second-round 304 to take a two-stroke lead over Rutgers (620) and Seton Hall (620) atop the 15-team field. Rutgers shot a pair of 310s and was the first-round leader, while Seton Hall posted the best second round in the field with a 298 following an opening-round 322. Boston University is in fourth place at 621, followed by Columbia (629), Lehigh (631), Robert Morris (640), Bucknell (643), Cleveland State (649), Saint Francis (Pa.) (649), Wagner (657), Kutztown (686), St. Francis (N.Y.) (735), McDaniel (742) and Navy (754).
Wilcox was the low Bison in both rounds on Saturday, and she is tied for ninth place in the individual standings at 153 total. Megan Tenhundfeld of Seton Hall and Kristyna Pavlickova of Boston University both shot 75-71 and are tied for the lead.
Also for Bucknell, Lauren Bernard shot 79-82, Lexi Klein carded 80-83, Kasha Scott had rounds of 81-86, and Emily Timmonsshot 84-85.
Bucknell's two freshmen made their collegiate debuts, playing as individuals. The highlight was Jen Lee's second-round 79, which was an 11-stroke improvement over her first-round score. Meghan Garanichshot 89-87.
The final round will get underway with a shotgun start on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
