BALTIMORE, Md. - In her first career collegiate meet, Bucknell freshman Emma Levendoski won the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke events Saturday afternoon as the Bison swam at UMBC. The meet was unscored as it gave both teams a chance to get in the pool early in the season against different competition. The two teams swam 20 races, many of which were of unusual distances compared to what the Bison will swim the rest of the year, in addition to the two diving events.
Overall, Bucknell won nine of the 22 events on the day. Diver Katie Hetherington and swimmer Kelly Pontecorvo were the other double-winners for the Bison. Hetherington swept both boards, while Pontecorvo captured the 500 and 1,000 free. Lauren Perry (200 free) and Elizabeth Porcellio (200 IM) were Bucknell's other winners in the meet. Perry also finished second in the 50 free, while Porcellio had runner-up showings in the 100 IM and 400 IM.
Bucknell will now be idle for three weeks until it swims at UConn Oct. 20 against the host Huskies and Fordham.
