Bucknell Women's Golf Opens with 326 at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's golf team posted a 326 team score on Friday in the first round of the Nittany Lion Invitational. Bridget Wilcox led the Bison with a 79, while freshman Meghan Garanich had a solid day with an 80.
Wilcox made 13 pars in her opening round at the Penn State Blue Course. Garanich birdied the par-4 13th hole, her fifth hole of the day, and she was even through seven holes before giving some back late in her round.
This event is using a play-6, count-4 format this year. Lauren Bernard followed with an 83, and the Bison also counted an 84 from Lexi Klein. Kasha Scott posted an 86 and Jen Lee an 88.
Penn State, listed 37th in the latest GolfWeek rankings, opened with a 292 and has a four-shot lead on Old Dominion. Harvard is third at 303, followed by Minnesota, College of Charleston and Columbia, all at 304.
Ellen Ceresko of Penn State shot a 3-under-par 69 to take a two-stroke lead over Joanna Henry of Columbia. Old Dominion's Gemma Fuster and Princeton's Kelly Shon are tied for third at even par.
The three-day tournament continues Saturday morning.
