ITHACA, N.Y. -- Dan Bernard recorded his third top-10 finish in as many tournaments this season, and the Bucknell men's golf team finished fourth out of 13 teams at the Cornell Invitational on Sunday. The Bison posted a final-round 305 after shooting 300 in a rain-delayed opening round on Saturday, and they ended up 12 shots behind champion Binghamton.
Bernard shot 75 in the final round after opening with a 73, and he finished in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings. Bernard was coming off a win at the Bucknell Invitational last week, and he opened the season with a T-10th finish at the Colgate Invitational. He has been Bucknell's low player in all three events so far.
Binghamton posted scores of 297-296 to repeat as champion of this tournament. Josh Holling of the Bearcats fired a pair of 1-under-par 71s at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course to win the individual title by one shot over Zack Bosse of Cornell.
Bernard was six shots off the lead, as he posted Bucknell's best score on both days of this rain-shortened event. Saturday's opening round was delayed by about five hours due to rain, shortening the tournament from 54 to 36 holes.
Schuyler Stitzer finished four shots behind Bernard at 152 (75-77) and placed T-16th. Zach Pogust had a good day with a 76, following up on his opening-round 78. Freshman Luke Edelman slipped to an 81 after posting a 74 on Saturday, and he and Thomas Walter (78-77) both finished at 155.
Pete Scialabba, playing as an individual, finished with a 77 on Sunday.
The Bison will have a week off before appearing at the Binghamton Invitational at the Links at Hiawatha on Oct. 7-8.
