MALVERN, Pa. -- Jon Hartman carded a 3-over-par 74 to lead the Bucknell men's golf team to a 307 team score on the final day of the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Villanova at White Manor Country Club. Bucknell's best score of the 54-hole event allowed it to move up three spots to an eighth-place finish.
Ohio State, the 36-hole leader, closed out the team victory with a tournament-best 288 on Tuesday. The Buckeyes' 890 total was 11 strokes better than Delaware and St. John's, who tied for second at 901. Villanova finished fourth at 902, followed by Central Connecticut at 910.
Bucknell (945) was the lone Patriot League team in the field, and the Bison finished ahead of Siena (946), Youngstown State (947), Drexel (956), Fairleigh Dickinson (960), Saint Joseph's (962) and Temple (964).
Hartman was solid all day, making 14 pars and one birdie on his way to the 74. Also for the Bison, Dan Bernard and Schuyler Stitzer both shot 77, while Will Bachman and Thomas Walter both finished with 79s. Stitzer led the team with four birdies in the final round.
Ohio State's Matthew Turner, who was playing as an individual, ended up running away with the individual title. He finished at 1-under 212, seven shots ahead of Ryan McCormick of St. John's. Dan Costenbader of Delaware had the best round of the day, a 3-under 68.
The Bison are back in action Apr. 13-14 at the Manor Intercollegiate in Farmville, Va.
