Bucknell Women's Track & Field Wins Three Gold at Towson Invitational

TOWSON, Md. - Bucknell women's track and field claimed three victories, and two top-10 marks fell in the pole vault as the Bison kicked off their outdoor campaign at the Towson Invitational on Saturday. Hana Casalnova, Rebecca Misko and the 4x100 relay all brought home gold medals. Valerie Sans also led Bucknell at Susquehanna's Jim Taylor Invitational with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
Casalnova led a group of Bison that took three of the top five spots in the 1,500 meters. The sophomore won with a time of 4 minutes, 38.19 seconds. She was followed by Emily Waksmunski and Stephanie Fulmer in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Misko combined with Abby Monaghan to go 1-2 in the discus with nearly identical throws of 135 feet, 11 inches. Misko earned the top spot by a fraction of an inch, officially coming in at 41.44 meters. Monaghan's best mark of the day was 41.43 meters.
Yanelis Mestre cleared 11-1 ¾ in the pole vault to earn a career best and take over sixth all-time at Bucknell. Mestre placed fourth at the meet.
At 48.43 seconds, Bucknell took gold in the 4x100 relay. The unit ran one of the fastest times in program history, just missing the top-10 list by one-hundredth of a second.
The Bison traveled in herds in several of their races. In the 800, Beth Braunegg was second (2:16.09), followed by Caroline Tolli in third (2:16.70) and Emily Liggett in fifth (2:18.29). Away from the track, Tayler Siegrist, Sarah Trahan and Erin Norris finished second through fourth, respectively, in the javelin. Siegrist led the pack with a throw of 137-8, while Trahan came in at 127-5 and Norris at 125-8 in her collegiate debut.
At Susquehanna, Sans posted Bucknell's top finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:08.10 that earned her second place. Also finishing among the top five were Ali Foote in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:52.14) and Kelly Grosskurth in the 1,500 (4:51.77).
Bucknell gets back to the track April 6-7 at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
