LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman midfielder Arriana Sajjad (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh), who scored 11 goals in two games last week and keyed Bucknell's incredible comeback against Liberty, has been named the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week and the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week.
Sajjad had the best game of her young career last Wednesday against Liberty, helping Bucknell rally from 9-0 down to defeat the Flames 16-15 in overtime. Sajjad logged six goals, two assists and seven draw controls in that contest. After the Bison had pulled within 13-10 in the final few minutes of regulation, she scored two goals in succession and then assisted on Madison Hurwitz's game-tying goal with 30 seconds remaining.
The Bison fell behind 15-13 in overtime before rallying once again. With the score tied at 15-all with 1:29 left, Sajjad buried a free-position shot to give Bucknell its first lead of the day. The Bison won the ensuing draw and ran out the clock.
One game later, Sajjad again carried the offensive load for the Bison, scoring five of the team's nine goals in a loss to American.
With 11 goals on the week, Sajjad has taken over the team scoring lead with 25 goals and 30 points. She now ranks 10th in the Patriot League in goals per game.
The Bison are 3-8 on the season, and they travel to Lafayette for a Patriot League contest this Saturday at 1 p.m.
